Neal Gay Monumental Sculpture
Don Hunt, NSS
Comments:
This work involved an extreme focus with the accurate and proportional
positioning of all aspects of the horse and rider. The enlargement
has to be
accurately reproduced artistically and dimensionally with considerable
attention also given to proper engineering practices.
Of particular note is the expression of many surface and object details
necessary to bring life to this monumental sculpture.
Client Praise:
This work prompted immediate approval and permission to cast with the
wife of the subject saying that "It looks exactly like him." Mr. and
Mrs. Gay flew to Loveland, CO from Texas to view the sculpture. The horse
is ridden by Mr. Gay at the present time. The custom-made saddle, bridle,
breast harness, spurs and
additional tack are in exact duplication by Don in this sculpture.
Technical Details:
The life and one-fourth enlargement is structurally braced within the
foam and assembled. Don applies 1/4" clay on prepared foam to achieve the
precise artistic style and texture for the sculpture. Every detail is
again created to produce the enlargement of the maquette. The process
replicates the ratio and proportion dimensions from the maquette,
successfully scaling the artist's work up to a monumental scale.
